MediaBistro.com. Site is dedicated to anyone who creates or works with content, or who is a non-creative professional working in a content/creative industry. Its mission is to provide opportunities (both on- and offline) for editorial professionals to share resources, become informed of job opportunities, improve career skills and showcase work. Some 71 courses offered: an incredible array focusing on various niches eg, how to pitch to magazines, health and beauty writing, how to write for tv, cookbook writing, etc. The standards (eg, copyediting, proofreading, basic grammar) are also offered.

WritingTrainers.com. Offers a broad range of courses (on- and offline), from business writing, to basic grammar, to grant writing. You may enroll individually, or as part of your company's training program.

InlandPress.org. Inland is a newspaper association specializing in high-quality, low-cost training options for all newspaper departments (from copyediting to news writing to layout and design). ExecutiveWriter.com. The Northwest Independent Editors Guild. An alliance of more than 175 professional freelance editors throughout Washington, Oregon, and Alaska formed in 1997 to help employers and authors find the right editor to meet their needs, among other things. Offers copyediting and editing workshops (eg, technical, email, business and grammar).

New York University. This famed university offers courses ranging from screen and comedic writing, to book publishing and travel writing. A wide array of courses from which to choose.

The Direct Marketing Association (DMA). The DMA offers the most comprehensive series of seminars on direct and interactive marketing techniques available (copywriting, email marketing, direct marketing, etc.). Seminars and workshops feature practical insights from leading marketing experts on a wide range of topics.

The Nonprofit World: Workshops and much more on such industry specific topics as proposal writing, Grant applications, consultants, etc.

EEI Communications. An employee-owned company headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Silver Spring, Maryland. Can take a project from an idea through production, visually and verbally, for print, CD-ROMs, the Web, and mobile devices. Teaches publications and new media skills (eg, copyediting, copywriting, programming, illustration, design and more) in professional workshops and offers masters and specialty certificates.

HowWriteYouAre.com. Offers a range of teleclasses, eg, how to make your web copy more compelling, how to write powerful emails, how to write more concisely, etc.

Heddon Information Management. Offers online courses in web site indexing. These courses focus on how to create A-Z back-of-the-book style indexes of HTML documents, whether on web sites or intranets. Broader issues in web indexing are also discussed. An online discussion board is part of each course.
