The Race to Success
by Cassandra Black
The race to success is not sweet, it's
nasty as hell, it hurts, it's hard and
it's not guaranteed.
The race to success is won not in front
of a cheering crowd.
The race to success does not begin with
the waving of a magnificent flag, the
beating of a glorious drum or the shot of
a powerful gun.
The catalyst for the race surges only
after you've been slapped around, kicked
about and told, "You'll never make it" by
enemies and friends alike.
The race to success begins when you
realize you don't need a running mate;
when you realize you should start running
not next month, not next week, but today!
The race to success begins in the
middle of the night when it seems everyone
else in the world is asleep;
it begins
when your peripheral vision is dead; when
all voices are silenced but the one
within; when risk is as rote as breathing;
and when faith encircles you like a stone
casket.
The race to success is won only when
you realize the turnip does have
blood, the glass ceiling indeed
shatters, and yes, hell will freeze
over this here day!
